TEZPUR: The dead body of a wild elephant was discovered by local people in a tea estate on the night of Tuesday.
The incident was reported from the Adabari Tea Estate of the Sonitur district of Assam. This tea estate is located near the Balipara region of the district.
The carcass was discovered by the staff of the Adabari testate at night. And they informed both the local forest as well as police authorities. The officials arrived at during the night itself and studied the situation. The dead body of the elephant was removed soon afterwards and taken for a proper autopsy.
The deputy range officer of the Amaribari Central Forest Range also arrived at the location. He mentioned that the exact reason for the death has not been known yet.
"The employees of the tea estate informed us about the incident. We also informed our higher authority as well as the veterinary doctor. We will come to know the exact cause of death of the wild elephant," said Anil Borthakur, the Deputy Ranger of Amaribari Central Forest Range.
In a separate incident that took place about two weeks before, the dead body of an elephant calf was found dead in a tea garden in the Jorhat district of Assam. Reports about the incident mentioned that the dead body was spotted by local people in the Kasojan Tea Estate located in Titabor of Jorhat district. The calf was told to be a member of a small herd of wild elephants that came out of the nearby forest area in search of food in the tea estate. Veterinary experts had ascertained the age of the calf at 3 months.
And a day before that, another dead body of a wild elephant was discovered in the Goalpara district of Assam. It was discovered in a paddy field located in the Joyramkuchi area under the Lakhipur Forest Range of the district of the state.
